St. Francis Integrated Development Organization (FIDO) was established and is operational in the Yeka Sub-City Kebele 01/02 and 06/07 of Addis Abeba and Souther Nations and Nationalities People Regional State (SNNPR), Ethiopia. Since its official recognition by the government of Ethiopia in July 2002, the organization has been in the forefront of the efforts to deal with the reduction of poverty in Addis Ababa.
FIDO was organized by an interest group in response to a request made by the Ethiopian government, for philanthropic organizations, to cooperate with them in the fight against poverty and its adverse effects.
FIDO responded immediately and, at the start of its operation, used the research done by the host Kebeles to see the reality and the extent of the problem on the ground and what type of intervention was needed.
Accordingly, the major aim of FIDO happened to be, " Improving the quality of life of the majority of the people living in Addis Ababa and SNNPR.
The Institutional Goal is- To make FIDO a learning and credible development organization that strives to sustainably alleviate poverty and contribute to the realization of the National development plan.
The Organization has a signed agreement with the Government of Ethiopia through the Charities and Societies Agency. The agreement is for three years and expires in may 2014.
